When we saw that the brilliant and lovely bestselling author Donna Morrissey (Kit’s Law, Sylvanus Now, The Fortunate Brother, etc.) would be in town this weekend to host an immersive workshop, we wasted no time in signing up. (Chris *may* have fan-girled a bit because besides me (right, Chris?), Donna is her favourite author.) It honestly wouldn’t have mattered what the workshop was about, we would have registered. (Donna Morrissey, read us the phone book for two days, okay? We will pay.) But, as it turns out, the topic is absolutely perfect: Archetypes, Characters, & You.
We are pretty excited to be learning from such a force in the literary world, especially on such an fascinating topic. Pretty sure this workshop will take our work to a whole new level as we learn how to make our characters more authentic by delving deeper into all of the different personality archetypes.
This particular workshop is specifically designed for Memoir and Fiction writing, and because both Christine and I write fiction, and here at Manley Mann Media we specialize in memoir ghostwriting and substantive editing, this is going to be a great opportunity for us to grab some new skills we can put into our own work, and the work that crosses our desks. We support many professional development opportunities that come our way—you have to keep those skills nice and fresh, right?
So while we each have our own focus project for the weekend (Chris = novel, me = screenplay), we will be taking our learning and putting it into everything we write from here on out. Is it ever going to be fun!
There *may* still be space to sign up for this? We have no idea because we’re just participants, but you can find out more about the workshop from our friends at the PEI Writer’s Guild.
