Ya pay peanuts, ya get monkeys.

Perhaps you’ve heard the expression before that if you pay peanuts, you can expect to get monkeys.

If you’re paying peanuts, you can’t expect to get very much in return. In other words, you get what you pay for.

You might as well know right now that we’re not cheap (and no, we’re not easy either in case you were wondering). Of course, cheap is a relative term.

Our clients value us and the work we do, and consider our services an investment, not a cost.

There’s a difference.

The way I see it, a cost is something you don’t expect to get any return from . . . gas, utilities, pants, for example.

An investment is something that will go on to help you make more money . . . social media marketing, sales copy, and mutual funds for example.

We Manley Mann girls value our time because time is literally money. We only get so many hours at the beginning of each day, and we need to use those to our best advantage. You won’t catch us working for free. (Unless we’re volunteering our time for a particular cause, which is totally different.)

There are lots of service providers out there doing the same thing that we do, but they’re offering to work for free. Sure they might only be writing a free blog post here, or putting together a free social media marketing campaign there, but you have to wonder how good someone is at what they do, if they’ll give their time away.

Sometimes people will work for free in order to have something for their portfolio; other times, it’s used as a tactic to get some new customers (we don’t really want customers who don’t want to pay, but that’s another post for another day).

In any case, we think you should question working with someone who works for free, because, really, who wants to be a guinea pig?

We’re good at what we do and our time is valuable, so we charge for it.

Let us put it this way . . . would you rather pay $800 for a root canal from a dentist with a great reputation or be a guinea pig for the newbie surgeon offering them for free?
